Albania's Top Spots

The ancient city of Berat is a cultural and historical treat. Situated on a steep hill and featuring a uniquely attractive architecture, Berat is easily recognizable in many photos of Albania by its white houses and many windows.

Dhërmi is one of Albania's most popular beach destinations, with crystal clear waters, a very pleasant climate and delicious cuisine. There are several hotels in the little enclosed area of the beach whereas in Dhërmi village, situated up the hill from the beach, locals rent out rooms or apartments.

Durrës is the second-largest city in Albania, and a key tourist attraction. In the summer, it's a busy spot full of Albanian families heading to its 10km long sandy beach. The city itself is rich in archaeological as well cultural sites.

A quiet, ancient city in the very south of Albania, the birthplace of the country's most famous writer (Ismail Kadare) and its most infamous dictator (Enver Hoxha). Surrounded by breathtaking mountains, this UNESCO World Heritage site is highly recommended for cultural thrill-seekers.

Pogradec is a small, quiet town in southeastern Albania. The city lies on the Albanian side of lake Ohrid, a large, deep lake shared by Albania and Macedonia. Pogradec is a great place for strolling, fishing and people-watching during its summer xhiro.

Saranda is a city made for travellers with its gorgeous weather (290 sunny days a year, temperatures around 30C), beautiful beaches, and proximity to two major archaeological sites: Butrint and Gjirokastra.

Once a busy cultural and artistical centre, Shkodra is considered by many visitors as the soul of Albania. Its characteristically narrow streets and ancient houses stand beside Socialist-era buildings and newer developments. The nearby lake and the legendary castle of Rozafa are both very enjoyable sights.

Albania's capital is a city full of energy and contrasts. Situated equally a half hour away from the seaside and the wonderful Dajti mountain, Tirana gives visitors a taste of the modern Albanian life.

Vlora is a city that takes beach life to heart. It has a variety of natural beaches, from sandy to rocky, beautiful landscapes and is near the charmingly fresh crossing of Llogara. Along the Vlora bay there is a 25km stretch of small contained beaches peppered with resorts and family-run restaurants.
